It’s Time to Buy a Steampunk Corset

A corset should be a staple in every women’s lingerie collection — it creates a sexy silhouette and is a sure way to have men drooling over you.

The elaborate and detailed design of steampunk corsets is the perfect way to achieve an elegant, sexy look.

What Is a Steampunk Corset?

A steampunk corset is derived from the steampunk fashion genre. Steampunk is a type of fantasy-driven fashion inspired by materials and elements of the Industrial Revolution and Victorian-era fashion. It’s the perfect blend of the old and the new — with the elegance of the Victorian period mixed with eye-catching, retro technology. The result of this fusion is a dramatic, post-apocalyptic aesthetic with a romantic touch.

There’s no doubt that one of the most common pieces of clothing within the steampunk realm is the corset — you’ll rarely see a female’s steampunk corset outfit without an elaborate, sexy corset.

How to Choose a Steampunk Corset

There are many types of steampunk corsets out there. So you won’t struggle to find the perfect corset for your event.

Pick a style. Generally, steampunk corsets come in both underbust and overbust styles. These are pretty self-explanatory — a steampunk underbust corset covers your torso and sits just under your boobs, while an overbust steampunk corset covers your boobs. An overbust corset provides more support, an underbust corset is often considered to be more comfortable.

Choose a color. Most steampunk corsets come in darker colors, to match the aesthetic of steampunk fashion. The most common colors for steampunk corsets are blacks, grays, and browns. However, you will be able to find ones with more color, although there will not be many brightly-colored corsets within the steampunk genre.

Pick a material. Material is one of the most obvious ways to express the steampunk style. Leather is a very popular choice within the genre, but there are other options. Anything with gloss, sheen, or metallic textures is often favored within this style as well. Lace is also a material that you will see in steampunk fashion.

Pick out a design. Now, this is the most exciting part! The design of steampunk corsets is what really sets them apart from other corsets. Steampunk corsets are often designed with chains, buckles, rivets, or thick zips. Strong lines are also a staple in steampunk fashion. However, if you’re styling your corset with a more elaborate outfit, you may want to opt for a simpler design.

How to Wear a Steampunk Corset

If you’re familiar with corsets, you won’t find many styles that are too complicated to wear. However, if a steampunk corset is your entry-level corset, here’s a quick run-down on how to wear it:

Put your corset on by hooking up the front. Steampunk corsets may have buckles, hooks, or zips at the front. Make sure it is loosely tied at the back and do up the metal hooks on the front.

Make sure the back panel is flat. Your corset will come with a back panel under the lace-up at your spine, which should lay completely flat against your back before you lace it up.

Tie up your corset. Your corset will likely already be laced when you receive it and the lace in the middle should look like shoelaces. Push the corset together and gently pull on the long strings of the corset at your waist to make it secure enough to stay up. This will draw the corset in tightly on your waist.

Tie the lace-up in the middle of your back. Once you’ve fastened the corset up to fit tightly, tie the extra lace into a bow, you might need to double knot it to be extra secure.

What to Wear With a Steampunk Corset?

One of the great things about steampunk corsets is their versatility. You can style them up for a sexy lingerie set, or style them with more casual clothes for an edgy, everyday look.

Wear a steampunk corset as lingerie. If you want to drive men crazy with a darker, edgier look, a steampunk corset lingerie outfit is a perfect choice. Pair your corset with a pair of sexy pantyhose and a pair of six inch heels for a truly seductive look.

Steampunk corset as a more casual look. The addition of a steampunk corset to a casual outfit can really upgrade a simple look to an exciting and edgy one. You can create an eye-catching steampunk corset outfit with a simple pair of jeans and a ruffled top — or keep the corset on its own for a more provocative casual look. You can also pair your steampunk corset with a dress and wear the corset on top to draw in your waist and really create the elegant, Victorian-era look. Or, pair the steampunk corset with a top and wear a Victorian maxi skirt.
